Pre-employment medicals are the standard for many Australian organisations. They ensure that any health-related requirements essential to job performance for a particular role are met. The type of testing done as part of the process depends on the position being recruited.

Commercial Driver’s Licence Medical (Dangerous Goods Medical)

Driving a motor vehicle is a complex task requiring perception, good judgement, responsiveness and reasonable physical capability. Professional driving adds additional demands associated with the vehicle itself, the responsibility to passengers, distances travelled, the demands of work schedules and so on.

A range of medical conditions as well as treatments may therefore impair the ability to undertake work safely. Drivers must meet certain medical standards to ensure their health status does not increase the risk of a crash in which they or other road users may be injured or killed.

The commercial standards should be applied to:

• Drivers of 'heavy vehicles' i.e. those holding or applying for a licence of class MR (Medium Rigid), HR (Heavy Rigid), HC (Heavy Combination) or MC (Multi-combination).
• Drivers applying for an authority /already authorised to carry public passengers for hire or reward (bus drivers, taxi drivers, chauffeurs, drivers of hire cars and small buses etc).
• Drivers applying for an authority / already authorised to carry bulk dangerous goods.

Commercial vehicle drivers are required to comply with legislation, and be certified as ‘fit to drive’, in accordance with the Assessing Fitness to Drive 2012 standards for commercial vehicle drivers, published by Austroads and the National Transport Commission.

We provide timely and uncomplicated, on-site instant Drug and Alcohol screening, with results you can receive on the same day. Our drug and alcohol testing is conducted in accordance with the AS/NZS 4308:2008 standards.
